「一九七三年度香港小姐」的誕生 |

電視廣播有限公司主辦的「一九七三年度香港小姐競選」以世界最具規模的美國「環球小姐競選」和英國「世界小姐競選」為藍本，而電視廣播有限公司亦經與上述兩大選美機構簽約，在本年選出唯一的香港代表，前往參加這兩項著名的國際性選美盛事。
在接受此一挑戰性的任務後，TVB深獲香港各界人士支持和鼓勵，香港旅遊協會更明確宣示選出來的香港小姐，將負起責任，前往海外，宣揚香港。
香港小姐競選雖非初次舉行，電視廣播有限公司致力主辦的「一九七三年度香港小姐競選」不乏新猷。在「邊個夠眼光」口號下產生的「提名人」制度和參加競選的佳麗必須符合大會的學歷要求，都屬史無前例的創舉。
「提名人」的制度，目的在於讓全港市民都有機會參與「一九七三年度香港小姐競選」活動，而學歷資格的限定，宗旨就是保障選出來的「香港小姐」受過相當教育。
本年大家就在利舞台目睹「一九七三年度香港小姐」的誕生，孫詠恩小姐榮登后座，接受大家的祝福，並成功地代表香港，為香港增光，同時開展香港小姐的光輝之路。

The Miss Hong Kong 1973 Pageant has been designed with the world's two biggest pageants as blue-prints, the Miss Universe Beauty Pageant of America and the Miss World Contest of Britain. With both these pageants TVB has signed an exclusive franchise for 1973, meaning that TVB's Miss Hong Kong 1973 was the only Miss Hong Kong representative at the two beauty contests of international fame.
Television Broadcasts Limited considered it a mission and indeed a challenge to promote the image of Hong Kong through Miss Hong Kong 1973, and in this regard, official blessing was gained from the Hong Kong Tourist Association.
Though beauty contests are no longer a novelty, the painstaking efforts TVB has put into the Miss Hong Kong 1973 Pageant were certainly unprecedented, and the 'nomination system' under the slogan 'Do you know the girl?' and the requirement that entrants must hold a Hong Kong School Certificate are unique feature.
The primary aim of requiring entrants be nominated is to make the Pageant an event for the entire community of Hong Kong, while the purpose of setting the academic qualification requirement is to make sure that Miss Hong Kong will be reasonably educated.
As we recalled the glittering event at Lee Theatre, and recalled the first Miss Hong Kong - Miss Elaine Sung crowned at this unforgettable night.
