一九八七年度香港小姐楊寶玲、李美鳳和林穎嫺分別在國際選美盛會中獲得驕人成績，是TVB主辦香港小姐競選以來，最令人鼓舞的一屆。
現代的女性，充滿幹勁與活力，勇於追尋自己的理想，也積極發展事業，同時關心社會，參加香港小姐競選，就有充份的發揮機會。
「凝聚大都會魅力、分享國際友誼」是本年度香港小姐大會主題，當選的香港小姐，將代表香港前往海外，肩負起親善大使的使命，促進國際友誼。
今年參加人數又破紀錄，共計二千三百二十人，經過大會的面試和初選，選出二十二名佳麗，參加準決賽；而總決賽則於八月二十一日在灣仔香港演藝學院隆重舉行。

1987 was an encouraging year for the Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Titleholders Miss Pauline Yeung; Miss Elizabeth Lee and Miss Wing Lam have had outstanding achievements in international beauty contests.
1988 marks the 16th anniversary of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant. Past titleholders have participated in both local and overseas goodwill activities and in the promotion of Hong Kong's cosmopolitan image. It is hoped that such activities will contribute to the development of the local trading, manufacturing and tourist industries.
Today's women are full of vitality. They have their own goals to achieve and are enthusiastic in the pursuit of a career. At the same time, they are constantly aware of social happenings. Such qualities are fully displayed through the Miss Hong Kong Pageant.
Once again, we are looking for a Miss Hong Kong who is endowed with cosmopolitan charisma and who will form international friendships…
