一九九七年乃香港回歸之年，舉世矚,目今屆港姐競選，準決賽及決分別定於六月廿二日及七月十三日舉行，成為回歸後首個選美盛會；參選的佳麗橫跨這個歷史性時刻，可謂千載難逢，而當選回歸後首任香港小姐，更是別具深遠意義；因此，大會選取了「歷史時刻現，鳳凰展翅時」作為今年的主題，欣逢今年是香港小姐競選廿五周年銀禧盛典，大會更發行了一套五款，印有歷屆香港小姐冠軍肖像的銀禧紀念封，極具收藏價值。
今年準決賽於六月廿二日在電視城舉行，為配合今年香港小姐銀禧盛典，當晚並邀得歷屆港姐代表亮相。至於決賽則在七月十三日晚在紅磡香港體育館舉行，全晚將會以秦、唐、宋、元、明、清六大朝代作背景，搭建瑰麗舞台佈景，配合以歷朝風格構思的環節...

1997 - the year which catches the whole world's attention because of the reunification of Hong Kong with China. For this year's Pageant, the semi-final and final were scheduled on June 22 and July 13 respectively in order to coincide with the historical event. Thus, the Miss Hong Kong Pageant will become the first beauty Pageant held after the handover and all contestants are so fortunate to witness the transition and the historic moment. It is also especially meaningful for the newly crowned Miss Hong Kong as she will be the first Miss Hong Kong elected after the handover. Setting "At a great moment in history - A star is born" as the theme of this year's Pageant, the Organising Committee hopes to tie in with the historic moment. In addition, a set of five commemorative envelopes printed with the portraits of all past winners of Miss Hong Kong were issued to mark the Silver Jubilee of the Miss Hong Kong Pageant.
The semi-final has held on June 22 at TV City. In order to mark the Silver Jubilee, representatives from the past Miss Hong Kong titleholders graced the occasion with their glamorous appearance.
As for the final contest to be held on July 13 at the Hong Kong Coliseum, the show will be set against the spectacular backdrop of the Qin, Tang, Song, Yuan, Ming and Qing Dynasties…
