香港小姐競選 - 標誌代表香港親善大使任務的選美活動，「一九九八年度香港小姐競選」的口號為 "超越今日平凡，開展明日燦爛，一個殿堂選美盛事" 意謂歷屆港姐於當選之後，皆能為明日開展一個多采多姿，光芒燦爛的人生。
本年度香港小姐競選決賽榮幸地得到香港旅遊協會鼎力支持，協助大會外景攝製隊在香港不同著名景點拍攝外景片段。準決賽於五月廿四日舉行，從二十位佳麗當中挑選出十二位佳麗進入六月六日在新香港國際機場舉行的決賽。
為了配合新機場是香港往國際的大門，決賽的主題設定為「衝出香港，跨越國際」，節目當中，以世界七大洲為骨幹，更利用新機場大堂的寬闊設計，以一個嶄新形式，除了有一個主要舞台之外，更輔以兩個副舞台，突顯機場和香港小姐均能擔當連繫世界的角色...

Miss Hong Kong Pageant - a pageant activity that carries the mission of promoting goodwill of Hong Kong. The theme for "Miss Hong Kong Pageant 1998" is "Excel Today. Explore the brilliance of Tomorrow. A world-class event that has earned its place in the beauty pageant hall of fame". The theme signifies the rich and plenteous life style of the titleholders.
The semi-final contest of "Miss Hong Kong Pageant 1998" is honoured to have the great support of Hong Kong Tourist Association which provided a great deal of assistance to our production crew when shooting at different scenic spots. At the semi-final on 24th May, twelve finalists were shortlisted to enter the final on 6th June at the new Chek Lap Kok Airport.
The final contest will revolve around the theme of "Step out of Hong Kong into the world". And the programme has been designed to base on the seven continents of the world. Setting designers fully made use of the space of the new airport to create a very advanced main stage and two side stages…
